For this week, my group read chapters 6-10 of the short bus.

A lot has happened in this section of the book. Before Becky leaves, she said something that really surprised me, She told Jon that she would love if there kids were just like him. Before this happened, I didn't much care for her but this really let me see a different side of her. That she is accepting and loving and I really liked that. The adventure in chpt 6, was him going to find the museum of wonders. At first, he thinks that Butch is a fraud, but then he realizes that he is an artist and that his museum is really wonderful. Butch, who was the owner of the museum of wonders, had trouble reading as a child. It was a place were butch was not a freak but someone important to the world. Along the journey, Jon meets Ashley. Something that I found really surprising was that even though he was a special needs child, he was judging Ashley. He wondered if they were of the same species. I think that this says so much about society. Even if people have the same problems, they will still judge others. I think this is a really big problem. As a kid, I was always made fun of for the way I looked and dressed so now I try really hard not to judge others, but like Jonathan, sometimes I can't help it. I feel it has a lot to do with the media and the way that we see others treating each other. If you see your parents act weirdly towards a person, you might pick up on that habit too. I am so glad that through out the day he changed his mind about Ashley. I love when Deborah said that people try to avoid things they don't understand because I think this is a 100% true statement and it is something that needs to be fixed. I liked the part when he was talked to his friends John's mother. He mom said that she had to give up a fancy life to take care of her child with special needs and she wouldn't have it any other way. I think that this is great because sometimes parents do need to give up things they want for their children. The last person that he met was Cookie. Cookie is a fifty-two year old man that dresses like a women. He learns that his community for the most part is accepting of him. Also, he learns that he is a great artist. But, they are building new buildings in the area and John wonders if the new people that come will be accepting to him. I think all of this says so much about society and they way that people think and act. Some of it is good but there is a lot that needs to be improved on.
